Bringing up an often-seen furious bikeshedding debate is not a good thing to do.

It can be an honest mistake, but it's still a mistake.

Smiles convey intent, they don't have magic powers. They can't stop something from being annoying.

So it's not that I'm against good-natured jokes with smiles, it's just that those attributes can't save all possible statements.

Smiles don't strongly affect whether you effect a flamewar, either.
