No need to DIY -- Steam already has game streaming built-in, so your friends can watch you play if they want. It works pretty well. This is separate from the Home Streaming feature, which is what's used/abused in the article.
Home Streaming also works really surprisingly well, although it feels weird to play GPU-heavy games like Shadow of Mordor on my dinky little Macbook. With an XBox controller, no less. (I have the "unofficial" Mac drivers installed, but I'm not sure if Steam uses that or has its own XB360 controller support built-in.)
I'm talking interactive streaming, where your friends control the game with you, over the internet. For example, you could all share turns with each person taking control of the cursor at the appropriate time.
Steam's inbuilt streaming is fantastic for spectator use, it's just not interactive.
