As for your foreign policy beliefs - the US needs to be involved with the rest of the world because they have the potential to cause us serious harm (either in a real war or through terrorist attacks). Thus, as with patents, some level of intervention is necessary. A completely isolationist policy would come back to haunt us at some point.
