These days you can sometimes still find a combat map with a few players in NS2.

I don't know how modded it is on the server-side, but you can still drop a few buildings as aliens, and a sentry turret as marines. Good fun!

One of the neatest part about ns2 development is that the source is the product you are just distributing lua files that the engine runs.

The uwe implementation of combat for ns2 was last stand and the source is here https://github.com/unknownworlds/ns2_laststand
