The promise of WebAssembly is that we can stop writing shitty Javascript and write shitty web apps in slightly less shitty languages, without having to transpile it to shitty Javascript. Ideally this will lead to less overall shittiness.

I don't really think we'll ever actually get there, but that's the hope. And even if we do, we're stuck with the DOM APIs until the heat death of the universe.
