After 17 years as a creative technologist, I’m studying to be a nurse. If you’re a web designer or developer who’s tried Muse and still sees a long-term career, I don’t get it. As tools like ChatGPT and Muse reduce the need to browse the web (Muse even shows you it's browsing the web for you), what will we be designing/developing? Muse already lets anyone create, publish, and host a website for free with no technical skills - just ask it and boom zero skill or effort to create a site. You may think I want my site to look good yet lol not many are going to see it. Now if Meta adds domain registration, your entire online presence could be live in minutes and to update content on your personal or business site just use Muse to do so.
Overall I think the web will just be the storage for our thoughts, businesses/transactions and etc for AI to access. Yet our thoughts/content that AI uses to keep itself relevant we need to be paid for.
What would they be building .. just tell Ai create and publish a website for my personal thoughts, solo business, mid-size business, etc and call it something like name124.com. Then boom it's done and live on the internet for them to feed content to it via a personal agent like Muse. If humans are getting paid to publish their thoughts/content on the web for Ai to stay relevant and it's super easy Im bet millions would love to be feeding Ai.
Thank you it's on-going and going well. Ai (chatGPT plus) is helping me learn as I feed it my class notes and notes in general. I then have it create multiple choice quizzes I take via voice while driving or when not driving clicking/choosing the answer. I will write more once I further progress as I started school in mid August.
Been using the archive page firefox extension for a year or two. Yet now it looks like a total war against this resource was waged and it's no longer a good resource for archiving.
archive.is is the best substitute. For some reason people here won't accept that. They think the internet is still a calm cooperative place like the olden days.
My office's "net nanny" blocks archive.is as a "Russian site". However, archive.ph (use the same link across all the various sites) is not blocked (yet).
For me, archive.today, archive.is, archive.md, archive.ph, etc. are _not reliable_ for a number of reasons
But some archive.today users who comment on HN cannot seem to accept that archive.today may not work for everybody else
NB. Archive.today is not a "substitute for archive.org". Archive.today does not do www crawls
As for archive.org, I know of a number of alternatives but each is generally less reliable and/or less comprehensive than archive.org
Comman Crawl, i.e., downloads from data.commoncrawl.org, is reasonably reliable but not as comprehensive as archive.org. CC is not a reasonable substitute for archive.org's CDX service. The CC CDX endpoint, index.commoncrawl.org, historically has been easily overwhelmed and unreliable
As for archive.today alternatives (no crawls, only user-submitted URLs), ghostarchive.org seems well-designed but not used much. No CAPTCHA, HTTPS and Javascript are optional and HAR files are provided. Whether it gets blocked like archive.today sites I do not know
NB. Archive.today users may be using archive.today not as an archive but as a lazy man's solution for "paywalls" (Javascript annoyances)
Where that's the case, comparsions to archive.org or other archives that are derived from crawls are inappropriate
Hmmmmm today is a very different world compared to when we used the Internet to learn how to code. Now with Ai doing all the coding is learning how to code even happenning?
Also, just talked two friends who work for mid-size companies and last week both of their CEOs told them to just point Ai to their Jira tickets to finish all their tasks. Anyone else hearing their CEOs instruct the same thing?
A few software engineer friends' employers are requiring them to point AI (Claude) at Jira tickets to complete their tasks. Are your companies requiring this too, and how effective are the current models at actually completing the work precisely?
I just saw two facebook friends post about it and asked the OP how successful the latest models are and he said it isnt a mess just some fixes here and there are needed.
I was wondering if other employers are asking their SWE to do the same?
The new Siri UX needs improvement and to match the UX of talking to chatGPT. At least in settings have an option to keep the Siri window always on top (just have a prominent X out to go to the screen below) and always listening ready to continue your conversation like the experience is with chatGPT.
Been running the beta since June -- on the latest beta now and 8 out of ten times to continue the conversation with Siri (most notably in the car with my phone docked) I have to constantly say "Hey Siri."
One thing it's current UX has over chatGPT voice tech as it shows you the text and provides visuals while chatGPT's UI shows no text and or visuals.

As an aside, I had to look up what pwc is because they're totally irrelevant to me. But in general, it costs you nothing to tell people to spend years retraining their hard-earned skills, which is roughly what your advice is worth. You can't promise that the industry they pivot into will exist by the time they qualify to work in it, and the cost of their career retraining is denominated in time they don't get back. Nor will you be there for their journey to even know if they made it.
Funny how it works. To me you are delusional and living in a bubble. Your stance would’ve made (some, not much though) year ago, but today it’s just dumb.
That's until you find yourself in this job market and you realize now how stupid the digital creation job market and overall jobs are. Once you get laid (off) you are now you're in a pile of 100(edit 1000s) other applicants equally qualified vying for the same job and then hundreds of thousands who can all type to Ai to do a job that once required knowledge & skill.
Indeed been using the new Siri since June and it fails a ton in comparison to chatGPT voice!
Using chatGPT voice i can see Open AI's push for pushing us to a new Internet voice paradigm 1st with screens/visuals secondary & complimentary to possibly none at all. It would be much safer especially when driving to get super intelligent human like directions where voice says drive to the mcdonalds on dorset you go to all the time and across the street is the new 7 Brew coffee shop.
